Phil Mickelson was in agreement with a fan page of his that compared one aspect of the PGA Championship with LIV Golf's latest event in Virginia. As the LIV Golf event in Virginia unfolded with a lot of buzz, a fan page's post on June 8 caught the attention of Mickelson as he shared a reaction to it.
A fan page of the 54-year-old shared the following post on X:
"Deeper galleries here today than anything I saw at the PGA at Quail Hollow.'
Mickelson simply replied to the post with a one one-word reaction:
"Same."
The comment was a subtle flex of LIV Golf's Virginia event, which is taking place this week. The post suggested that the LIV event, known for its fan-centric and entertainment-heavy format, had a stronger crowd presence than the year's second major.
Mickelson is currently participating in the LIV Virginia event, part of his HyFlyers GC, alongside Brendan Steele, Cameron Tringale, and Andy Ogletree. In the opening round, Mickelson shot 4-under, just one stroke behind leaders Bryson DeChambeau and Matt Kuchar, who posted 5-under 66.
In the second round, Anirban Lahiri surged with a 7-under 64, taking a two-shot lead while Mickelson shot a 3-under par, tied for fifth on the leaderboard.
Off the course, Mickelson is facing possibly his final US Open at Oakmont next week. Mickelson's five-year exemption granted by his 2021 PGA Championship win is set to expire. He admitted recently that this could be his last chance at clinching the coveted Grand Slam. Apart from that, Brandel Chamblee recently shared his thoughts on Mickelson and LIV Golf.
Brandle Chamblee rips into Phil Mickelson and LIV Golf
Brnadle Chamblee reignited his criticism of LIV Golf on Saturday, June 7, taking a direct aim at Phil Mickelson. Known for supporting the PGA Tour, the veteran shared a post on X that questioned the relevance and intent of LIV golf.
"The only time anyone seems to pay any attention to LIV is when Mickelson or Norman make insanely idiotic comments about the skill of LIV players. Phil Mickelson has mastered the public art in which self-righteousness congratulates the celebrator."
"He and his LIV compatriots, all of them subject to the dramatic irony of having resigned themselves to play purely for money—not for history or for their respective countries—but purely for money, and now present to virtually no purpose, their presence in major championships is likely attended by a sense of urgency, the exact opposite no doubt, of the lack of urgency at LIV events," he added.
Apart from that, here' a look at the leaderboard of the ongoing 2025 LIV Golf Virginia event after two rounds, featuring Phil Mickelson.
