Phil Mickelson all set to play at Oakmont despite last year’s missed cut at the US Open

The 2025 US Open is finally here, and fans are eager to see who will lift the trophy in the tournament this year. 45-time PGA Tour winner Phil Mickelson, who is getting ready to tee off in the competiion, has shared a post on Instagram showing his preparedness.

Mickelson is currently tied for the eighth-most PGA Tour wins with Walter Hagen. He has been playing golf professionally since 1992 and, has since won 11 tournaments on the European Tour. The six-time major championship winner has won every major tournament except the US Open. Should he claim the victory this year, he will join the elite group of career Grand Slam winners.

On Wednesday, June 11, the San Diego-born golfer shared a short video on Instagram showing some clips from his practice round at Oakmont Country Club. He captioned the video:

Last year, Phil Mickelson competed in the US Open at Pinehurst Resort’s Course No. 2 but failed to make the cut into the third round. On the first day of the tournament, he performed poorly and had a birdie-free round.

The 54-year-old golfer opened with four consecutive bogeys from hole one to four. He shot a total of nine bogeys across 18 holes and carded 79 at the end of the day.

On day two, he shot four bogeys and closed with a double bogey on the 18th. He carded 76 at the end of yet another birdie-free round, which brought his total score to nine-over 155. Notably, Bryson DeChambeau claimed the victory with 6-under 274.

A look at Phil Mickelson’s best results from the US Open

Although Phil Mickelson has yet to claim a victory in the US Open, he has come close to winning several times. He holds the record for the most runner-up finishes in the US Open and has come in second place in the tournament six times.

In 1999, the 45-time PGA Tour winner came in solo second in the US Open when he was 29 years old. Mickelson was bested by Payne Stewart. He also came in second position in the US Open in 2002, when the tournament was held at Bethpage State Park, Black Course. He made par again and was bested by 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods.

In 2004, Phil Mickelson came in solo second with 2-under, two strokes behind the winner. In 2006, he tied for T2 with two other golfers. They all scored 6-over and were one stroke behind the winner.

Phil Mickelson’s next T2 finish was in the 2009 US Open, where he tied with David Duval and Ricky Barnes with 2-under. They were two strokes behind Lucas Glover, who won with 4-under. In 2013, Mickelson scored 3-over and tied for second place with Jason Day. Justin Rose claimed the victory with 1-over.
