Rickie Fowler is the latest name to join TGL

Rickie Fowler became the latest name to join Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's much anticipated The Golf League (TGL) amidst rumors of him joining the LIV Golf.

As per sources, Fowler is the 12th golfer to commit to the new tech-infused golf league. TGL is set to start in 2024.

Although Fowler hasn't won a title on the Tour since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open, he has been doing well on the PGA Tour of late with six top-10 finishes this season. He ended up in tied13th place in the recently concluded Players Championship.

Before Fowler's addition, several big names on the PGA Tour had already signed up for the new league. In addition to Woods, McIlroy, and Fowler, the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Max Homa, Adam Scott, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, and Billy Horschel have joined the new tech-infused league.

There will be six three-man teams for virtual match play, and six more golfers are yet to be signed for TGL.

TGL is the idea of TMRW Sports, a company backed by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. Mike McCarley, former President of the Golf Channel, is CEO of TMRW Sports CEO.

TGL is a new tech-infused league set to begin next year. It will provide an innovative look at the game of golf, integrating sports and technology. The new league is in collaboration with the PGA Tour.

It will feature 18 PGA Tour professionals playing on six teams with three players in each. The golfers will participate in a matchplay that takes place virtually and involves a short-game complex designed for chipping and putting.

The matches will take place on Monday nights with 15 regular matches in a season followed by a post-season to crown the winner. Each match will take place for two hours and will be an 18-hole game.

Embracing technology to create this unique environment gives us the ability to move our sport into primetime on a consistent basis alongside so many of sports’ biggest events, said Woods in a statement. "As a big sports fan myself, I’m excited about blending golf with technology and team elements common in other sports, "

TGL is creating an arena on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Last month, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were present for the ceremonial groundbreaking of TGL.

"TGL will tap into the appeal of team golf within an exciting, fan-friendly environment, comparable to sitting courtside at an NBA game, said Rory McIlroy, co founder of TMRW Sports. "TGL will widen the appeal of golf to younger and more diverse fans and serve as another avenue to introduce people to the game I love."

McIlroy said that the new TGL will give a more in-depth view to the fans at home and in the arena.

TMWR Sports has committed to donating $1 million to Palm Beach State College as part of an agreement to enhance the Palm Beach Gardens campus with educational and recreational programs that benefit students.
