Ripper GC claim team victory in Adelaide after first ever sudden death playoff in LIV Golf history

Cameron Smith's Ripper GC emerged victorious at the LIV Golf Adelaide event after a sudden-death playoff for the team match.

Following the three rounds of the tournament on Sunday, April 28, Ripper GC and Stinger GC tied for the lead. They went head-to-head in a playoff where Smith's team secured the victory with a score of over par 1, while Stinger scored over par 2. It was the first team playoff in the LIV Golf history.

Although Stinger GC did not win the team event, their players Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel settled in second and T3 place on the individual leaderboard, respectively.

Following the third round, Ripper GC and Stinger GC settled for a score of under par 53. Both team players were pretty impressive with their game, but ultimately Smith's team won the tournament. Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers secured the third spot on the team leaderboard.

Brendan Steel wins LIV Golf Adelaide 2024

In the individual LIV Golf Adelaide event, it was Brendan Steele who seized his maiden Saudi Circuit victory on Sunday, April 28th. The American golfer registered a one-stroke victory over Louis Oosthuizen, settling for a score of under 18 following the 54-hole event.

Steele played all three rounds under par, starting with an excellent score of under par 6 on the opening day. He shot under par 8 in the second round and under par 4 in the third round.

Steele was remarkable throughout the game, shooting eight birdies and just two bogeys in the first round, followed by his fabulous round of under 8 on Saturday, April 27th. He shot nine birdies and just a bogey in the second round.

With a final round of -4, he took home the trophy of the Adelaide event, marking his first victory on the Saudi Circuit.

Speaking of his win, Steele said (via Reuters):

"This is amazing, it's just been fantastic. I knew there was going to be hard moments today, regardless of the result, and I just needed to get back in there and start playing with freedom again."

The LIV players will next be seen in action at the Singapore event. The tournament is scheduled from May 3 to 5 at the Sentosa Golf Club.
