Rory McIlroy made headlines by completing his career grand slam earlier this year after winning the Masters Tournament. In September, the 36-year-old will be competing in the Ryder Cup as part of Team Europe.

Ryder Cup Europe shared the news of McIlroy qualifying for his eighth consecutive appearance in the prestigious tournament on X, writing:

“@McIlroyRory is the first #TeamEurope player confirmed for the 2025 Ryder Cup.”

The news came just a few hours after McIlroy's disappointing finish at the 2025 US Open. And Team Europe captain Luke Donald could not be any happier to welcome the Northern Irishman as the first confirmed member of his team.

He shared the post, and wrote in the caption:

“Welcome back to Team Europe Rory - a leader on and off the course and a key piece to our Team. Let’s Go.”

Rory McIlroy did not have a great start at the 2025 US Open. However, he showed his exemplary skills in the final round to end the tournament on a high. After carding rounds of 74, 72, and 74, he carded a final round score of 67 at Oakmont.

McIlroy shot a total of six birdies and three bogeys in the final round and settled for a T19 finish along with three other players. They finished eight shots behind JJ Spaun.
