Team USA's Scottie Scheffler won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, bagging the men's individual stroke play event by one stroke. Team Great Britain's Tommy Fleetwood and Japan's Hideki Matsuyama won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The Le Golf National's Albatross Golf Course was the venue for this event, with thousands of fans gathering to witness some incredible golf. Even though the on-ground presence of fans was high, the television viewership for Golf Channel in the United States saw a decline.

According to Austin Karp, the final round of the 2024 Paris Olympics men's golf event drew 723,000 viewers, around 11% less than the viewership for Xander Schauffele's victory at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"Golf Channel drew 723,000 viewers for the final round of the men's Olympic golf competition on Sunday (around 6 am-noon ET). That's off 11% from Tokyo (809,000 viewers; started at 6:30 pm ET and ran til 330am). Also down big from golf's Olympic return in 2016 in Rio," Karp wrote.

Xander Schauffele won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which had around 809,000 viewers, but it is pertinent to note that there were no spectators on the course due to the pandemic restrictions.

For a good viewership, the tee times matter a lot. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, golf had a prime time as it began at 6:30 pm ET, while this year, the final few groups teed off at 6:00 am ET. This might have affected the viewership as some people prefer watching the highlights rather than waking up early to follow the event.

Scottie Scheffler's performance in the final round of the 2024 Paris Olympics

Before the event, Scottie Scheffler was one of the favorites to win the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 28-year-old golfer had a slow start to the event and remained three to four strokes behind the leader from round one.

He never looked threatening or a contender to win gold until the back nine on the final day. He started his last round four strokes behind the leader and was -3 through the front nine with three consecutive birdies on the first three holes.

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm was in complete control as he carded -20 and looked all set for victory. Unfortunately, he stumbled on the final few holes and lost his momentum while Scheffler picked up the pace. He carded six birdies on the back nine to equal the course record with -9 for the day and -19 for the event.

Scheffler took the clubhouse lead and eventually triumphed by one stroke to win the men's golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
