Did Sergio Garcia qualify for the 2024 US Open? Dallas qualifying event result explored

Sergio Garcia failed to qualify for the 2024 US Open in the final qualifying event in Dallas, Texas. The US Open will be held at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina, from June 13 to 16.

LIV Golfer and Fireballs GC star Garcia participated in the US Open final qualifying event at Dallas Athletic Club in Texas. He shot a 66 in the first round and a 73 in the second. He finished in a tie for sixth position with six other players, resulting in a playoff.

Garcia was in a comfortable position to qualify until he scored a double bogey on par-5 16th, leading to a score of 73. He made a bogey in the playoffs again and failed to qualify.

Sergio Garcia has been listed as the first alternate and will be the first to replace any player who withdraws from the tournament. 11 players have qualified for the 2024 US Open and two alternates have been listed.

Players like Kevin Streelman, Abraham Ancer, Caleb Surratt, Ryan Moore, and Cam Champ also failed to qualify for the US Open at the event.

The US Open is considered to be a true Major which is open to everyone. 156 players will take on the field at Pinehurst and several top players have already been exempted from the tournament. The rest will be decided through qualifiers. Players need to possess a handicap of 0.4 or lower to participate in the local qualifying event. This year, 10,052 players registered for the local qualifying event.

The top performers in the local qualifying event move to the final qualifying event. Three of the 13 final qualifying events were held on Monday, May 20, in Japan, England, and Dallas, Texas. The remaining 10 final qualifying events will be held till Monday, June 3. 36 holes are played in the final event.

The 2024 season has been a hit-and-miss for Sergio Garcia. He has had two top-10 finishes this year. He started the year on a splendid note with a 2-y finish at the LIV Golf Mayakoba. Joaquin Niemann won the event with Garcia in the playoff.

He lost in another playoff with Dean Burmester at LIV Golf Miami and had another 2-y finish. He failed to make the cut in the first Major of the season at Augusta National Golf Club.
