Shane Lowry of Team Ireland failed to win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The men's golf event at Le Golf National in France concluded on Sunday, August 4.
Lowry finished four rounds with a score of 5-under 279. He scored 71 and 71 in the first two rounds. He scored a decent 66 in the third round but finished with an even-par 71 in the final round. The 37-year-old tied for 26th with Stephan Jaeger, Matthias Schmid and Carlos Ortiz.
After the loss, Lowry took to X and wrote:
"A lot of emotions after those last 10 days in Paris. Growing up I never even dreamt of being in the Olympics as a golfer so to become a 2 time Olympian this week was just very surreal. I really wish I could have gave it a better run this week but I gave it my best and that’s all I can ask for."
This was Shane Lowry's second Olympics. He tied for 22nd at the Tokyo Olympics. Lowry is now looking to participate in his third Olympics. Revealing his ambition to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he further wrote:
"Let’s hope I can stick around for another few years at this level and give it a run in 2028 in LA. Thanks so much to everyone for their support this week, Without doubt the best support I’ve ever gotten outside of Ireland. Now let’s give the rest of @TeamIreland all the support they deserve for the rest of the games."
Shane Lowry was eyeing redemption at the Olympics after he lost the 2024 Open Championship after a disastrous third round. Lowry was leading the tournament for 36 holes. He'll next play at the Wyndham Championship from August 8 to 11.
