Shooter McGavin greets Scottie Scheffler with a savage welcome to join Tiger Woods, him, and John Daly in a unique ‘club’

Shooter McGavin greets Scottie Scheffler with a savage welcome

There is a growing club of golfers who have been arrested, with Scottie Scheffler's traffic incident on May 17 putting him in the club. An X account for infamous villain golfer Shooter McGavin, who is actually an actor by the name of Christopher McDonald, officially welcomed Scheffler to the club with a hilarious post.

McDonald was arrested, though not as McGavin but as an actor best known for playing a golfer. So was Tiger Woods, John Daly, and now Scottie Scheffler. McGavin's page posted the collage of the four mugshots and a song in the background.

Woods was arrested in 2017 after being suspected of driving under the influence. Daly was arrested in North Carolina in October 2008 after he was found intoxicated outside a Hooters restaurant. McDonald (or McGavin) was arrested for failing a breathalyzer test after being stopped.

Scheffler's incident isn't along those same lines. He was arrested early Friday morning after an incident in traffic. There was a fatal crash earlier in the morning where a shuttle struck and killed a man.

That led to traffic delays, and Scheffler allegedly assaulted and disregarded a police officer's attempts to direct the golfer and the rest of the traffic. The police report states that Scheffler dragged the officer with his car.

Officially, both Scheffler and his lawyer have called this entire thing a misunderstanding. He was officially booked into a Louisville jail but was released shortly thereafter and returned to play at the PGA Championship.

Barring something unexpected, the world number one, who currently trails the second Major of the season by four strokes, will play the rest of the way. Scottie Scheffler's court date is May 21, and if he makes the cut, he will play to May 19.

Scottie Scheffler hoping to focus on golf after arrest

It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Scottie Scheffler. He had to pause his epic hot streak in anticipation of the birth of his first child. Once the child was born, he could go back to playing at the PGA Championship, where he played one round before getting arrested. It's the first known run-in with the law for the golfer.

In his official statement, he said that the situation was chaotic due to the tragedy that took place and that he did his best to comply with the officer's instructions. He and his lawyer both intimated that the arrest was a misunderstanding.

He finished his statement by saying via CNN:

“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.”

Scottie Scheffler completed his second round by shooting four under and moving to solo fourth place, four shots behind new leader Collin Morikawa, who surpassed Xander Schauffele with a -7 score.
