A garden patio has been installed on St Andrew's iconic Swilken Bridge. Nuclr Golf shared the news on their Twitter account.

According to the photos, the course has rolled out certain changes to the stone bridge itself.

"A garden patio has recently been installed at the swilken bridge changing the look of the iconic landmark at St. Andrews. What's your thoughts on this?"

Fans reacted to the post in the comment section, saying:

"Terrible idea!"
"Think perspective makes it look bad…reality walking up to it are you really that bothered"
"Travesty. I hope it has something to do with preservation somehow."
"State of these responses. It’s a few stones laid to protect turf. People need real issues to worry about."
"An iconic bridge to be left as it was - I vote no!"
"Not sure...What's the purpose of it??? Patio furniture for a quick rest between holes??"
"No. Just no. That’s like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa."
"Not necessary, but if they were going to do it, St Andrews should've taken a pointer from The Duomo in Florence. They lay new clay roof tiles out in the weather for years before using them to patch the roof. This makes it all blend in perfectly."

While some supported the idea and wrote:

"This might also have been a safety thing. It got slippery at the bottom."
"It’s really not that noticeable. This was two weeks ago when it was still wrapped up."
"Not sure if it’s been modified before. If so probably not a big deal. If they changed the original then not a fan."

One fan shared an edited picture of the garden patio with Tiger Woods and Daniel Rapaport having a conversation. Nuclr fan reacted with a laughing emoji in the thread.
