Robert MacIntyre tasted victory at the 2024 Scottish Open in front of his home crowd on Sunday (July 14). He beat Adam Scott by one stroke after an intense final day of play. The Scot will now head into the 2024 Open Championship, which will be held just a week after the conclusion of the Scottish Open.

This is Robert MacIntyre's second win of the year, making him one of the few multiple-time winners this year on the PGA Tour. He will be celebrating his win at the Scottish Open, and even made an honest admission about teeing it up at the Major. He said (via Asap Sports):

"How I come down from this, I don't think I will. I think I will just try and ride the wave, and next week, yeah, it's Open Championship. That means, again, a lot to me. This, I'm going to celebrate hard and I'll pitch up when I tee the ball on Thursday, whatever time I tee off, I'll try to win the championship. There might be some alcohol still in the system but I will try my best."

For now Robert MacIntyre's main goal is to celebrate his victory with his friends and family. His expected media appearance ahead of the 2024 Open Championship was scheduled for Monday. However, the 27-year-old has his doubts about whether he will make it to the interview.

"I think there might be a change of schedule. I don't think I'll be in a fit state to get to Troon. I don't think I'll be legally able to drive (laughter)," he said.

The 2024 Open Championship is the fourth and final Major of the year. It will be held from July 18 to 21 at the Royal Troon Golf Club.

Robert MacIntyre's emotional victory at the 2024 Scottish Open after controversial free drop

Robert MacIntyre's victory at the 2024 Scottish Open was not without its share of controversy. On the 16th hole of the final day of the tournament, MacIntyre's ball landed in the thick grass.

While he was taking a practice swing, he realized that he was standing on a sprinkler, which was interfering with his stroke. He used the rules of golf cleverly and was awarded a free drop. The drop was a controversial one and was much debated online.

It was the 16th hole that gave MacIntyre the lead at the Scottish Open, after he carded an eagle. Speaking about the 16th hole that led to his victory, MacIntyre said (via the Guardian):

“I wanted The Scottish Open. I got a bit of luck on 16 that you need to win golf tournaments. I couldn’t believe when I heard a sprinkler under my foot. It was covered and I thought: I got lucky, it was meant to be.”

Adam Scott finished second at the Scottish Open, while Romain Langasque finished sole third.
