Analyst and senior golf writer Christopher Powers has called out the Polish LIV Golfer Adrian Meronk for his comments on the PGA Tour and the United States. Meronk, while talking to Golf Digest, expressed his thoughts on the PGA and LIV merger.
Meronk said he would love to see both the tours work things out, but even if the PGA Tour walks out of the deal, he wants other golf tours to unite and create a world tour everywhere except the United States.
"But, on the other hand, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if the PGA Tour went its own way and everyone else got together and created a worldwide tour everywhere except the United States. I like that idea. It would be awesome. The Asian Tour is flourishing right now, so maybe that will happen."
Josh Carpenter, a prominent sports journalist, posted this quote on X without any comments. Reacting to this statement, Christopher Powers wrote:
"This dude absolutely HATES America."
Meronk has competed in America on the PGA Tour for a year in 2023. He earned his PGA Tour card in 2023 and made five cuts in 11 events. The Polish golfer made $364,460 as official money on the tour in 2023.
Adrian Meronk reveals why he joined LIV Golf
Adrian Meronk joined LIV Golf this year and was part of the Cleeks GC team. He had a decent opening season as he finished 17th in the season-long individual standings.
While talking to Golf Digest, Meronk revealed the factors that influenced him to join the breakaway tour earlier this year.
He said he felt tired at the end of the season, and he desired to play less and enjoy his life a bit more. This was the main reason behind his decision to join LIV Golf.
He continued further and acknowledged that there were financial reasons as well, saying:
"It would be silly to deny that. I would be lying if I said otherwise. And I can’t imagine anyone would take me seriously if I did."
Additionally, the Polish golfer enjoys traveling with the team and having a support system around him. He said:
"But I have enjoyed being part of the team and traveling together. It has been a lot more entertaining and reminds me of my time at East Tennessee State. It has been nice to have that support system around me. Being from Poland, I found the PGA Tour to be a lonely place at times."
