Fans on social media have reacted to the TGL bunker shot system. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy collaborated to start a new golf series called the TGL. The series, which was initially scheduled to start in January 2024, was postponed to January 2025.

As the series is nearing its first season, Billy Horschel practiced on the simulator and demonstrated how a bunker shot would work in the TGL. Notably, the series will take place in a simulator, unlike most golf events held on golf courses.

Recently, TGL’s official account, NUCLR Golf, shared an update about the new bunker shot system on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"Billy Horschel demonstrates how a bunker shot will work during TGL. Real sand, which is the same sand used at Augusta National, per @PaulHodowanic."

Fans quickly took to the comments section to criticize the TGL bunker shot.

"This is so dumb," a fan wrote.

What is the format of TGL matches?

TGL matches will be played on 15 holes and feature a combination of triples and singles formats. The first nine holes will involve a 3-vs-3 team format, followed by one-on-one singles matches on the remaining six holes.

TGL includes 15 regular matches, followed by semifinals and a final. The first match will take place between the New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The regular matches will take place from January 7 2025 to March 15 followed by the semifinals on March 18 and then the finale on March 25.
