Tiger Woods' ex-coach Hank Haney recently endorsed golf biomechanist Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, who claimed that the proposed golf ball rollback is a bad idea that won't deliver the results the USGA and R&A are aiming for.

While appearing on Dan of Golf with Dan Rapaport, MacKenzie shared his thoughts on the matter and claimed that the proposed golf rollback rule change is "not the way to go". He added that the rule wouldn't "accomplish what they want to accomplish".

Haney reshared the post on June 8, adding the following caption:

"This is a fantastic take and exactly why rolling the ball back is a horrible idea."

The clip has since garnered over 220,000 views. The rollback is a proposed rule change from the USGA and R&A aimed at reducing the distance that golf balls can travel during elite competitions. Under the new rule, scheduled to take effect in 2028 for professional and 2030 for recreational players, a modified golf ball would be used to limit distance.

Dr. Sasho MacKenzie is a professor of sports biomechanics at St. Francis Xavier University and co-founder of the Stack System, used by many PGA Tour pros. Hank Haney, meanwhile, coached Tiger Woods from 2004-10 and helped him win numerous majors and PGA Tour titles.

Tiger captured 31 PGA Tour titles and six majors during his time with Haney. The golf coach later wrote a controversial book, The Big Miss, chronicling his time with Woods.

With that, let's look at Tiger Woods' other coaches who played a big role in his career over the years.

Tiger Woods’ coaches that helped shape the golfing icon

Butch Harmon (1993-2004)

Tiger's rise began under the guidance of Butch Harmon, a legendary swing coach and former tour pro. Under Harmon, Tiger won eight major championships and captured 34 PGA Tour events.

During this period, Tiger completed his career slam by winning all four major titles from 2000 to 2001. Their partnership ended in 2004. In addition to Woods, Harmon also coached several other stars like Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Greg Norman.

Sean Foley (2010-2014)

After his stint with Hank Haney, Tiger Woods linked up with Sean Foley at the PGA Championship. Over the next four years, Foley and Woods collaborated on significant swing adjustments, including deeper weight shifts, forward shaft lean, and a fade-oriented path, aimed at reducing injuries and optimizing ball flight.

Under Foley, Woods secured nine PGA Tour wins but failed to add a major title. They parted ways in 2014. Foley also coached Justin Rose and Lee Westwood.

Chris Como (2014-2017)

In 2014, Woods partnered with Chris Como. This collaboration came during one of Tiger's most injury-riddled periods, including multiple back surgeries. Woods eventually stepped away from formal coaching in 2017.
