Scottie Scheffler will tee it up at the 2025 US Open this week as a fan favorite. Prior to the start of the Major championship, Tiger Woods' former coach Hank Haney, shared his honest views on the World No. 1 golfer's mechanics.
Hank Haney reposted a video from the US Open's official X (formerly known as Twitter) page along with his assessment. The video showcased Scheffler practicing on the Oakmont Country Club's range.
Woods' ex-coach wrote (via X @HankHaney):
"Clubface control at it's best."
Here's a look at Haney's X post (via X @HankHaney):
In the video, Scottie Scheffler can be seen hitting some shots with different clubs in his bag. While the clubs changed every few golf balls, his ball flights and shot shapes remained constant which is the product of immaculate clubface and path control.
With exceptional golf swing mechanics and a strong mental game, Scheffler is one to watch out for this week in Pennsylvannia among a star studded 156 man field. He will tee it up at 2:25 PM ET alongside Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa.
Has Scottie Scheffler ever won the US Open?
While he has three Major championship victories under his belt, Scottie Scheffler is yet to win the US Open. In seven previous starts, the World No. 1 golfer has come very close to winning the tournament in the past.
As one of the most dominating figures in the world of men's professional golf, he has recorded three top-ten finishes in five cuts made. The 28 year old tied for seventh place at the 2021 US Open in Torrey Pines' South Course, a year after missing the cut. He posted rounds of 72, 69, 70, and 72 to total 1 under par for the week.
A year later, Scottie Scheffler posted his best finish at the US Open till date. The 2022 edition of the Major championship saw the American golfer tie for second place with Will Zalatoris. With scores of 70, 67, 71, and 67 at The Country Club, he totalled 5 under par and placed one stroke behind the winner, Matt Fitzpatrick.
Scheffler went on to continue his good streak at the US Open in 2023 at the Los Angeles Country Club's North Course. The Olympian posted a total 72 hole score of 7 under par with rounds of 67, 68, 68, and 70. He claimed the solo third place while Rory McIlroy took the runner's up position by a two stroke margin. Wyndham Clark won this edition of the event.
Having made his US Open debut in 2016 at the Oakmont Country Club and missed the cut, Scheffler seeks redemption from the Pennyslvannia based golf course's thick rough and tricky hills.
