On Monday, September 9, Tiger Woods joined Will Zalatoris and others in New York City for the Nexus Cup. This marked his first public appearance since he was last seen with his son, Charlie Woods, at the US Junior Amateur.
Woods was last seen playing at the Open Championship in July, where he missed the cut. This was his third consecutive missed cut of the season and his final official event of the year.
TW Legion, a popular account on X dedicated to tracking the 82-time PGA Tour winner's activities, shared a photograph of the event ahead of the Nexus Cup. In the picture, Woods was seen alongside Will Zalatoris.
"Tiger Woods is in NYC for the Nexus Cup and participated in the evening event tonight. He’s probably holding a clinic tomorrow morning if history serves," TW Legion wrote.
The Nexus Cup is set to take place on September 9 and 10 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. The two-day amateur team event will be played in an 18-hole foursome format. Each team will have the opportunity to meet the 15-time major champion.
Participants will also receive personalized team apparel, a tour bag, head covers, and tournament gear. The winners will earn a Hero World Challenge Pro-Am spot and receive Rolex watches.
Is Tiger Woods playing at the Presidents Cup?
Tiger Woods is not playing in the 2024 Presidents Cup as he has stopped competing regularly on the PGA Tour. As a result, he didn't accumulate enough points to qualify for the biennial event. He has been struggling with injuries for the last few years, so he is not a regular presence on the PGA Tour.
While the 48-year-old golfer doesn't have an outstanding record at the Ryder Cup, his stats at the Presidents Cup are quite the opposite. In his nine appearances so far, he holds a 27-15-1 record, and his 27 wins are the most by any player in the tournament's history.
Woods was also the playing captain at the 2019 Presidents Cup. He led his team to victory, going 3-0-0 in the tournament. His best performance came in 2009 when he went 5-0-0, which remains his best showing in any of his appearances at the event.
