WATCH: Romain Langasque’s WD mid-round at The 2024 Open Championship caught on camera

Romain Langasque played eight holes of the Open Championship before withdrawing. Citing a back injury as the reason for his withdrawal, the moment when Langasque appears to decide that his time is up was caught on camera by the broadcast. Langasque is the only player so far to withdraw during the event.

The French golfer had a difficult lie on his second shot of the par-three eighth hole. He was already three over par for the day and was headed for a bogey or worse after an errant approach shot.

He began to walk towards his ball before turning back and removing his hat. He shook his head, presumably to his caddie, and muttered something in frustration. Langasque then went over and cited his ailing back to an official before leaving the competition.

The clip was later shared by golf writer, Christopher Powers on his X handle:

"Don’t doubt that Romain Langasque has a legit back injury but this is an all-time 'fuck it I’m out' WD nonetheless," Powers wrote.

Powers noted that Langasque almost certainly had a legitimate back injury at the Open Championship, but that moment appeared to be a realization for the golfer that he didn't have a good outing in him and decided to rest his body instead of trying two grueling rounds to miss the cut in the end.

Sebastian Soderberg also withdrew from the Open Championship, though he exited the competition the day before it began, which leaves the Open Championship with two fewer players than it could have since both came too late to replace them with someone else.

The Open Championship now has a couple of missing players with Romain Langasque and Sebastian Soderberg exiting due to injuries. The remaining field is still full of talent, though.
