WATCH: Rory McIlroy hurls club in frustration after mishit at US Open 2025

Rory McIlroy's misery at the US Open 2025 didn’t end on the second day either, as he struggled with the Oakmont conditions throughout the round. The frustration was evident as he lost his temper several times during the day.

On Friday, June 13, Rory McIlroy started the round with two double bogeys in his first three holes. He picked up a birdie on the ninth hole but was back to 4-over for the day by the 12th. On the longest hole of the round, he began with a good tee shot, launching the ball 332 yards off the tee.

However, on the approach shot, the five-time major champion's strike went slightly right toward the rough. As soon as he hit the ball, he knew it hadn’t gone in the intended direction, and in frustration, he threw his club onto the fairway.

Eventually, Rory McIlroy managed to escape from the rough and save par. He added two birdies over the final six holes to close the round at 2-over and finish at 6-over after 36 holes.
