Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy are both a part of the 156 player field at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvannia this week. Ahead of the start of the 2025 US Open, the former got candid on his relationship with his fellow competitor.

The two European golfers had teed it up at the Oakmont Country Club earlier this week for a practice round. Shortly after, they found out that they have been paired together in the tournament.

After a long day practicing in Pennsylvannia, here's what Shane Lowry had to say about sticking with Rory McIlroy for a few more days (via Irish Independant):

"We’re practising tomorrow morning again, so we’ll be sick of each other by Friday."

Not only are the two Ryder Cup stars paired together for the first round of the 2025 US Open, but they will also play together on Friday. Despite being close friends and competitors, Lowry stated that they will maintain professionalism on the golf course while rooting for each other.

While joking about being "sick of each other," Shane Lowry commented (via Irish Independant):

"But hopefully we both play well and give ourselves a run at the weekend...I love playing with Rory, and I think we’ve got a great group there with Justin Rose as well. Everybody gets on very well, but when you’re out there, there’s not too much chit-chat. There’s not much fun out there. But it will be nice.”

Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy will tee it up with Justin Rose on Thursday, June 12 at 7:40 AM ET from the Oakmont Country Club's tenth hole. The 2025 US Open's Friday round will see the threesome teeing it up at 1:25 PM ET from the front nine.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry's record at the US Open

Rory McIlroy stands out in the 2025 US Open field as a past winner. He will be making his 17th appearance in the prestigious event and seeks to make his 12th cut.

The Northern Irishman won the tournament in 2011 at the Congressional Country Club. He posted an astounding 72 hole score of 16 under par with rounds of 65, 66, 68, and 69. The 2011 edition marked McIlroy's third US Open start.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry tees it up in Pennsylvannia this week with his eyes set on winning his maiden US Open title. In 12 starts and 8 cuts made, he posted his best finish in 2016.

The 2016 US Open at the Oakmont Country Club saw Lowry tie for second place with a total 1 under par score comprising rounds of 68, 70, 65, and 76. He heads into this year's edition of the tournament with good knowledge of navigating Oakmont's tricky layout.
