What Phil Mickelson said after reuniting with the course where he grabbed four of his Presidents Cup wins

Phil Mickelson shared his thoughts after reuniting with the course where his Presidents Cup team grabbed four trophies. He is playing at the LIV Golf Virginia this week, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

This was the same golf course where Mickelson’s Presidents Cup team USA came out victorious in years: 1994, 1996, 2000, and 2005, when Lefty was a part of the team. Following his first round at the course, he joined a press conference and shared his playing experience. He said, via ASAP Sports:

“It was really a fun test of golf and a fun round. Course is in incredible shape. I hit a lot of good shots. I had a stretch where I drove it really well in the middle of my round and I was able to make a bunch of birdies doing that. That's really the key here is getting the ball in the fairway.

“Then I hit a couple, I hit two or three that were uncharacteristic actually that I'm going to have to clean up for tomorrow and the weekend. I'm having a lot of fun. It's really fun. I'm starting to play well. My short game is starting to feel great, making some putts, and I'm just having a lot of fun.”

Phil Mickelson will play the second and last rounds of the LIV Golf Virginia on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Phil Mickelson had two top 10 finishes in the LIV Golf league, including a T3 at the LIV Golf Hong Kong and T6 at the LIV Golf Miami with 14-under and 1-under, respectively. His other best finishes in the 2025 season include a T19 at the LIV Golf Singapore and a T22 at the LIV Golf Mexico City with 4-under and 1-under, respectively.

Mickelson played two PGA Tour tournaments this year, including the Masters and the PGA Championship, where he missed the cut.
