Scottie Scheffler is once again demonstrating his quality during the first round of the PGA Championship. At the 16th hole he has a score of 4 under, and his demonstration this Thursday, May 16, has raised the praise of numerous fans and specialists.

One of them is the SiriusXM, CBS and Golf Digest analyst Michael Breed, who even compared the current Scottie Scheffler with the Tiger Woods of the year 2000.

Here's what Breed had to say about Scottie Scheffler:

"What we're seeing from Scottie Sheffler really reminds me of Tiger Woods back in 2000. He is doing everything the exact same way, the ball striking is just as delete, he is number one literally everything, strokes gain off the tee, strokes gain approach the tee... The short game is phenomenal, around the green he is number five on the PGA Tour."

Scheffler leads the PGA Tour season in Stroke Gained (SG): Total (2,851), SG: Tee-to-Green (2,835), SG: Off-the-Tee (0.957) and SG: Approach the Green (1,398). He is also the leader in Greens in Regulation (74.76%), putting average (1,669 putts per green in regulation) and scoring average (67.46).

In addition, Scottie Scheffler is among the top in other statistics, such as SG: Around the Green (5th) and driving accuracy percentage (7th).

A comparison between the Tiger Woods of 2000 and the Scottie Scheffler of 2024

Tiger Woods played 20 tournaments during the 2000 season, twice as many as Scottie Scheffler has played in 2024. However, some comparisons can be made in the performance of the two.

Woods missed no cuts in the 2000 season, with nine wins, four second-place finishes, four other Top 10s and three other Top 20s. His worst finish of the year was T23rd at the Advil Western Open.

Among his nine victories were three consecutive majors (US Open, The Open, PGA Championship) while he finished fifth in The Masters. In addition, he finished second in The Players Championship, considered the "fifth major".

During 2000, Woods had a streak of three consecutive victories and two consecutive two-win streaks. From August to December, he participated in seven official tournaments and in all of them he finished in the Top 5 with four victories.

As for Scheffler, during 2024 he has played 10 events with four wins, one second place and four other Top 10s. His worst finish of the year was T17 at The American Express.

Scottie strung together his four wins and his second place in five consecutive tournaments. His victories include The Masters, the only major played during the year so far, the Players Championship and two Signature Events (Arnold Palmer Invitational and RBC Heritage).

Between February and April, Schefler played in eight tournaments and finished in the top 10 in all of them. This period includes his four victories and his second-place finish.
