Scottie Scheffler is in contention to win a medal at the men's individual stroke play event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is ranked T6 going into the final round, which will decide the medal, as only the top 3 golfers will get the prestigious memento.

The third round is still ongoing, so Scottie's position could change a position or two by the end of the day. Scheffler carded -4 for the day to go up to -10 for the event and is in contention to win this event despite a slow start to his first Olympic golf event.

Scheffler began his moving day at T10 and was five strokes behind the lead. The World No.1 golfer started his round three on a reasonable note as he remained -1 for the day after three holes with two birdies and a bogey. Unfortunately, he couldn't continue this momentum as he carded just one birdie in the remaining holes on the front nine.

The 28-year-old bounced back on the back nine with three birdies on hole no. 11, 14, and 16. He tried his best to remain bogey-free on the back nine, but carded a bogey on the 17th as his pitch shot from 65 yards fell short of the green.

Scottie Scheffler backs the current Olympic qualification system

There has been a lot of controversy and comments regarding the qualification system for the 2024 Paris Olympics golf event. The OWGR is the benchmark for qualifying for the Olympics, and some golfers, especially those on LIV Golf, have criticized this system.

However, the World No.1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, has backed the current system, saying it's nice to have a standard rating system.

"I mean, I think it's nice having a pretty standard rating system for how you can choose the team," Scheffler commented after Thursday's opening round.

The 2024 Masters champion believes having a selection committee choose players would be objective.

"I think it gets a little bit objective when you have a selection committee choosing teams," Scheffler believes.

Scottie Scheffler added he is a fan of having a standard system and believes it is challenging being in the United States team.

"I'm a fan of having a standard system where you know where you stand in terms of getting in like it is now. If there is a committee that would decide the last couple spots, but also it's so challenging being in the United States getting on the team. You get four guys because we are all Top 15 in the world and it's still by far the hardest team to make," concluded Scheffler.
