Who is leading the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship after Day 1? Leaderboard explored

The first round of the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship was played on Thursday, October 17 at Seowon Valley Country Club in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. As many expected, it was a very close day, ending with a three-way tie for the top spot and 21 players within three shots of the lead.

Ashleigh Buhai, Hannah Green, and Jenny Shin lead the BMW Ladies Championship at 8-under. One of the pre-tournament favorites, Haeran Ryu, is one shot behind in fourth place.

Buhai, Green, and Shin ended the day just one stroke off the BMW Ladies Open 18-hole record of 9-under 63, held by Jeeno Thitikul since 2022. The three leaders carded eight birdies without a bogey on Thursday.

South African golfer Buhai and Korean golfer Shin are looking for their first LPGA Tour victory of the season, while the Australian golfer Green is seeking her third. Following the conclusion of the first round of the BMW Ladies Classic, Hannah Green said (via LPGA Tour News Service):

"When I actually played in the Pro-Am a couple days ago, I had the same score. It was nice to play some simple golf. Last week in China, I just had a very mixed scorecard, made some bigger numbers, and just to go bogey-free was really nice."

Haeran Ryu also carded eight birdies in the first round of the BMW Ladies Championship but her score included a bogey. Defending champion Minjee Lee is three shots off the lead in a group that also includes LPGA Hall of Famer Lydia Ko.
