Who is leading the 2024 Open Championship after Day 1? Leaderboard explored

The first round of the 2024 Open Championship is now in the books. The day ended with a surprise leader and several favorites shooting well below expectations.

Daniel Broom leads the 2024 Open Championship at 6-under. Royal Troon Golf Club once again proved to be an excellent test of golf as only 17 players broke par.

Daniel Brown carded a bogey-free first round with six birdies to take a surprise lead in the Open Championship. Brown has been a professional since 2017 and has played his entire career in Europe, alternating between the DP World Tour and feeder circuits.

The 2024 Open Championship is Brown's full debut in a Major championship. The Englishman had to earn his spot at the final qualifying event in West Lancashire.

Shane Lowry is second, one stroke behind Brown. Justin Thomas is third and seven players are tied for fourth.

Several of the favorites shot well over par. Cameron Smith (+9), Rory McIlroy (+7) and Bryson DeChambeau (+5) stand out.
