Who is Reed Hughes? Know about the 71-year-old golfer teeing up at Sanderson Farms Championship

Reed Hughes, a 71-year-old resident of Senatobia, Mississippi, is playing at the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson this week. He qualified for the event by winning the 2023 Gulf States E-Z-GO Section Championship in Mississippi.

Reed Hughes, 71, if he makes it through the cutline of the Sanderson Farms Championship this week, will surpass the record of Jay Haas, who made it through the cutline in the 2022 Zurich Classic at the age of 68.

Reed Hughes played his first PGA Tour event in 1984 at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic and has played in eight Tour events since then. His most recent PGA Tour event was the 2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he missed the cutline. His overall score before the weekend was 23 over 167.

Reed Hughes also played two PGA Tour Champions tournaments in the same year. This includes the Principal Charity Classic and the Wal-Mart First Tee Open, where he finished at T65 and T43 with 10-over 223 and 1-over 217, respectively.

Reed Hughes is at T129 in his latest PGA Tour event. Hughes scored 4-over after the first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship by shooting three birdies on the front nine and one birdie on the back nine.
