Friday, May 17, was quite an eventful day for World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, as he faced an arrest by the Louisville Metro Police Department. Following this, social media started trending #FreeScottie everywhere in support of the golfer.
Scheffler was set to tee off at the PGA Championship in the morning, but on his way to Valhalla Golf Club, he was arrested by LMPD officers after he tried to bypass them. The police was present near Valhalla, as a fatal accident had occurred earlier in the morning.
After the golfer's arrest, fans started trending #FreeScottie online. Moreover, numerous fans also attended the second round of the PGA Championship wearing t-shirts that read, 'Free Scottie.' Some t-shirts had different pictures of the golfer, but most of them had his mugshot, which was taken by the police following his arrest.
Aaron Chewning of St. André Golf also released a diss track on LMPD while asking for Scheffler's release. The track is fun, with Chewning taking digs at the police and supporting the golfer in a hilarious manner. Here's the video:
"I didn't really have an understanding of what had transpired this morning": Scottie Scheffler on his arrest
Following his second round at the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler said that it was a big understanding in the morning, but he hoped that it would get resolved quite quickly.
"I came here for a golf tournament," he added. "I was driving in this morning, trying to get to my warmup time and get ready for the round of golf. I didn't really have an understanding of what had transpired this morning.
"My main focus after getting arrested was wondering if I could be able to come back out here and play, and fortunately I was able to do that. It was nice to put together a solid round today, for sure," he continued.
