Why is the LPGA’s TOTO Japan Classic round 3 suspended? Reason explored

The third round of the Toto Japan Classic was suspended due to the after-effects of Tropical Storm Kong-rey. The LPGA Tour event got underway with its first round on Thursday, October 31, in Otsu-shi, Shiga, Japan. However, on Wednesday, October 30, heavy rains and high winds impacted Taiwan, and the storm's winds later turned toward Japan, as reported by the BBC.

Following these after-effects, officials postponed the third round of the Toto Japan Classic to Sunday. Also, the tournament has been trimmed to 54 holes. The LPGA Tour announced the suspension of the third round of the Toto Japan Classic on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"The LPGA Rules, JLPGA Rules and Seta Golf Course teams have assessed the golf course and have determined that Seta Golf Course will be closed on Saturday due to the effects of Tropical Storm Kong-Rey. The third round of the TOTO Japan Classic is suspended until Sunday, Nov. 3, and the tournament has been shortened to 54 holes. Pairings will remain the same for Sunday, but starting times will be adjusted."

The first two rounds of the LPGA Tour event were successfully concluded on Friday, November 1, with Hana Wakimoto taking the lead. She shot rounds of 63 and 68 to settle at a score of 13-under, taking an impressive two-stroke lead over Yealimi Noh and Ariya Jutanugarn.

Rio Takeda settled in fourth, followed by Saiki Fujita, who tied for fifth place with Marina Alex and Jin Young Ko. Hira Naveed tied for eighth place with Yuna Nishimura, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Ayaka Furue, Haeran Ryu, Chisato Iwai, Yuka Saso, Karen Tsuruoka, and Sakura Koiwai.

Although the tournament is now trimmed to 54 holes, the pairings for Sunday’s round will remain as planned for the third round. However, the tee times will be adjusted.
