Why was play suspended at the US Open 2025, Round 2?

The play at the US Open 2025 was forced to halt before everyone could finish their second round. While play was initially paused due to inclement weather at Oakmont Country Club, it was later suspended for the day as darkness and dangerous weather took over.

The US Open 2025 began on Thursday, June 12, with no weather interruption on Day 1. On Friday, June 13, there was a forecast of rain, but play remained unaffected until the evening. Around 8:15 p.m. ET, the USGA blew the horn as the weather became dangerous. An hour later, play was completely suspended for the day.

The US Open shared the information about the suspension of Round 2 on social media. Thirteen players are yet to finish their rounds and will resume on Saturday, June 14, at 7:30 am ET.

US Open 2025 Day 2 leaderboard explored

Earlier, Sam Burns fired a low 65 to take the 36-hole lead at Oakmont. He is now aggregating at 3-under and holds a one-shot lead over J.J. Spaun. The latter slipped to second after shooting 72 in the second round, while Viktor Hovland made a 17-spot jump to third after firing a 68.

Adam Scott and Ben Griffin were tied for fourth after shooting 70 and 71, respectively, while Victor Perez and Thriston Lawrence were tied for sixth at four strokes back. Notably, Lawrence still has one hole to play in the second round.
