Tiger Woods will be out of action at the 2024 Hero World Challenge, one of the two events he hosts. The event will feature 20 top players competing over 72 holes at the Albany Golf Course, Bahamas from December 5 to 8.
On Monday, November 25, Woods shared on X that he will be unavailable at the 2024 Hero World Challenge.
"I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp. Excited to welcome our exemptions JustinThomas, Justin Day and Nick Dunlap," he wrote.
The reason behind Tiger Woods' decision to pull out of the Hero World Challenge is that he underwent back surgery a couple of months ago to address issues in his lower back. He released the official statement on social media to inform fans about his surgery.
"The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season," he said. "I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf."
Woods was last seen playing at the Open Championship where he missed a cut. This was his third straight missed cut of the year. He only made the cut at the Masters but withdrew from the Genesis Invitational.
Woods did play at the Hero World Challenge last year, which was his first start since pulling out from the final day of the Masters Tournament 2023. He played all the 72 holes, which was a positive considering he was returning after the subtalar fusion surgery. He shot an even par and finished solo 18th after four days.
The 48-year-old golfer has played 18 times at the Hero World Challenge and has registered five top 10s and five runner-up finishes.
