Joel Dahmen has removed his name from the field for the Shriners Children's Open. The golfer was hit with a four-stroke penalty for having too many clubs in his bag, which pushed him down the leaderboard. His play in the first round had him one spot up from last place. He is not going to try and improve that in the second round.
Dahmen was out before the second round, which was significantly delayed due to high winds. Round one had been delayed yesterday due to darkness, but the second round was pushed for winds that reached 45 miles per hour at their fastest.
Fans believe that they can see through Dahmen's withdrawal. Some are certain the four-stroke penalty and the mountain he would have had to climb the rest of the tournament as a result are the reasons he's out.
"Good call. Not making the cut. Get ready to go low next week," another chimed in.
"Terrible golfer, even worse human. Never understood the hype around that tool," one said.
"Lmaoooo after that whole press conference, deserves to lose his full time status," another laughed.
"Wonder how his caddie feels about him wasting his time every week," one said.
"Guy is just such a loser," another added.
"Can’t be a***d to wait for this s**t tournament," one noted.
Most fans agree that the penalty was the prevailing reason Dahmen withdrew from the tournament. More than a few are thoroughly displeased with the golfer for the entire situation, though.
Joel Dahmen opened up on penalty before withdrawing

Joel Dahmen is not going to play the rest of the Shriners Children's Open. He was given a four-stroke penalty and eventually withdrew himself. He came in 124th out of 125 players who keep their PGA Tour card, and now he's at risk.
Dahmen didn't make excuses, though. He said via Golf.com:
“Never happened to me before. I travel with 15, 16 clubs. I think most people out here do depending on conditions and courses. You know, been traveling out here for a long time and never happened before. I’d like to blame Geno. That would be the easy thing to do. It’s not his fault either. I played Tuesday and Wednesday out here. We didn’t see it in there."
Joel Dahmen refused to blame his caddie for the mistake, shouldering it as a team misstep. He joked later that he could probably find snacks in his golf bag that are "two months old" and perhaps a "banana that is rotting." He said it's usually easy to see an extra club, but they just happened to miss it at a crucial spot.
