Xander Schauffele is currently at the top of the leaderboard of the 2024 PGA Championship. The tournament's first round is being held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, May 16.

After 18 holes, Schauffele carded 62 with a score of 9 under par. He started with the first round on the back nine and went on to secure nine birdies without any bogeys.

With a score of 62, Schauffele equalled Rickie Fowler (2023 U.S. Open) and Branden Grace (2017 British Open), the lowest round ever carded in a men's Major championship.

Xander Schauffele has been in splendid form in the 2024 season. He has had five top-5 finishes and eight top-10 finishes this year.

Schauffele started the year on a positive note with a T10 finish at The Sentry. The strong start was followed by consecutive top-10 finishes at The American Express (T3) and Farmers Insurance Open (T9).

His performance dipped slightly at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T54) but he rebounded swiftly at the Genesis Invitational where he finished T4. One of the major highlights of his season was at the 2024 Players Championship where he finished in the T2 position.

He came to the PGA Championship on the back of a runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
