YouTuber and golfer George Bryan commented on the unpredictable nature of golf as he reacted to his topped shot at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. The seventh FedExCup Fall event is being held at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda from November 14 to 17.
In the first round, on the 15th hole, Bryan made a top shot, a shot in which the club hits the top of the ball, causing it to roll along the ground. Bryan had a lighthearted reaction to his shot, mentioning that he sometimes struggles with longer clubs and on the 15th hole, let the nerves get the better of him. He said (via PGA Tour on X):
"I struggle sometimes with like a 3-iron, 4-iron, some of the longer clubs like especially when I get nervy and it's not uncharacteristic for me to hit like a top or some kind of skull or shank like just some awful shot. I dribbled it off the tee box into one of the concession stands and it was one of the best fives I've made a long time."
George Bryan made a bogey on the hole. However, he didn't let the mistake derail his game. He added:
"Because again, you know, I'm one over playing some decent golf and knowing like if I just get off this hole with a bogey like we're not out of this thing. But hey, that's golf," he added.
Bryan’s brother, Wesley, teased his brother with some playful banter. He said, "Your top is horrible." Wesley also joked that George is "good for one top a turn."
George Bryan had a score of +3 after 16 holes of play before the play got suspended due to darkness. He scored three birdies against two bogeys and a triple bogey. His brother encouraged him for the next round and said:
"I'm excited to watch you play fantastic golf tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Wesley Bryan was -3 after 16 holes. He is tied for sixth with two holes left to play.
George Bryan and his brother are paired together for the first two rounds of the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship
George Bryan and his brother Wesley have been paired together for the first two rounds at the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. They are paired along with Camiko Smith. In the second round, they'll tee off at 7:17 a.m. ET.
The two brothers also played together at the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship, however, they were not paired together. Last year, Wesley Bryan said (via PGA Tour):
"It was pretty special just to be able to tee it up on the PGA TOUR with him," Wesley said during the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. "That was kind of our dream… So to be able to say that we did that together is pretty damn special."
Last year, Wesley Bryan tied for 37th while George tied for 69th. George received a sponsor exemption to compete in this year's tournament.
