The Sanderson Farms Championship is the next stop on the PGA Tour's so-called FedEx Cup Fall 2024 schedule. The competition will take place at The Country Club of Jackson, Mississippi, where 132 golfers will vie for a Tour card for the 2025 season.

Keith Mitchell is the +2000 favorite to win the Sanderson Farms Championship, according to Golfweek odds. Mitchell recently finished in the top 15 at the Procore Championship, the most recent PGA Tour event.

Mitchell made 17 cuts in 23 starts during the regular season, with three top-10s. His best finish of the season was T9 at the American Express and the Conizant Classic.

Apart from him, there are a few other performers in the field, including Nick Dunlap (two wins) and Stephan Jaeger (one win).

As far as scoring is concerned, the Sanderson Farms Championship is traditionally a very low-scoring event. In fact, in the last 15 editions, the winning score has always been 15 under or less, with five champions shooting lower than 20 under. It is therefore safe to predict that the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship will be won with a score in the region of 17 under or even lower.

Speaking of the cut line, it has historically been low. Over the past five years, the average score to make the cut has been 4 under par, with a low of 6 under par in 2021. This suggests that players should aim for at least 4 under par after 36 holes to make the cut next weekend in Mississippi.

Sanderson Farms Championship: Records to break in 2024

The Sanderson Farms Championship is a tournament with a long and storied history, although it has always been considered one of the 'smaller' events on the PGA Tour calendar. It was inaugurated in 1968, and 2024 will mark its 56th edition.

The record 'to par' for the event is 24 under, set by Scott Stalings in 2012. However, it should be noted that this result was achieved at Anandale Golf Club, where the tournament was held between 1994 and 2013. The tournament moved to The Country Club of Jackson in 2014. Since then, the best score to par is 22 under, achieved by Sam Burns when he won in 2021.

The same goes for the 'aggregate' record. The current record is 263, set by Dan Halldorson when he won in 1986. However, that edition was played at the Hattiesburg Country Club, which was the venue at the time. At The Country Club of Jackson, the best aggregate score to date is 266, set by Sam Burns during his successful run in 2021 (266).

Only three players have won the event more than once and only one (Dwight Nevil, 1973 and 1974) has done so in successive editions. In 2024, Luke List will have the chance to repeat that feat, while there are several others who could become multiple winners.

Among them is Mackenzie Hughes, who won the tournament in 2022. Other former champions in the field include Cameron Champ (2018), Ryan Armour (2017), Cody Gribble (2016), Peter Malnati (2015), and Bill Haas (2010).
