US golfer Joel Dahmen has made many people emotional with his appearance on Netflix's new docuseries 'Full Swing'. He is featured in episode 4 titled 'Imposter Syndrome' where he revealed several details about his life and golfing career.

Dahmen has only won one PGA Tour event so far, but he is a much-loved golfer by fans and the golfing community alike. Amongst the many other touching stories that 'Imposter Syndrome' delves into, one that saddened and frustrated viewers in equal parts was the way Joel Dahmen negatively viewed his golfing abilities.

His caddie Geno Bonnalie described Dahmen by saying,

"He’s just your friendly neighbor, who’s really f***ing good at golf."

Dahmen's friend and US golfer Max Homa added,

"Joel is the most self-deprecating, least-confident sounding person who is incredible at what he does that I’ve ever met."

Dahmen himself talked about his golfing prospects, saying,

"All the best players, they’re way better than I am, and I’ll never be a top-10 player in the world and I’ll never win majors."

Dahmen's 10th-place finish at the US Open last year proves otherwise. Of course, the struggle to persuade oneself to think that way must be incredibly frustrating.

As Max Homa said during a party at Dahmen's house in Scottsdale,

"Most of my adult beverage nights with Joel end with me yelling at Joel about how good he is at golf and trying to get him to realize it."

Dahmen's top-10 after advancing out of the Final Qualifying is very inspiring indeed. He downplayed the achievement, saying,

"Someone’s gotta be the 70th best golfer in the world. Might as well be me."

"I probably need a little bit more of a killer instinct," - Joel Dahmen

Joel Dahmen's phenomenal stint at the US Open last year has by far been one of the defining moments of Netflix's brand new docuseries 'Full Swing'.

The golfer wasn't even sure if he should even show up to compete, but finally ended up advancing out of the Final Qualifying with flying colors. He earned a spot in his third US Open after a fantastic 5-under 66 that afternoon.

The self-deprecating Dahmen believed that he had no chance of winning but his golfing skills quickly proved him wrong. He opened his campaign with a 3-under 67, putting him in second place. As he walked to the podium after his round, he mocked himself, saying,

"Can Joel Dahmen win a major? Blah, blah, blah. You’re saying you can’t do this, look at you now."

A journalist quipped back,

"It’s only one round."

Dahmen thanked him and later said,

"I probably need a little bit more of a killer instinct."

At the tournament, he shot a brilliant 68 after two rounds and was tied for the lead with Collin Morikawa at 5 under par. After a brutal third round, Joel Dahmen was three back entering the final round. After a final round 71 he finished T10 at the US Open and won a whopping $407,220.

Reacting to the result, Dahmen said,

"We didn’t lose any money this week."

His caddied Geno Bonnalie offered a quote that could define their entire episode on 'Full Swing', saying,

"Joel’s capable of being top 30 in the world, I would say. That being said, I don’t know if Joel wants to be top 30 in the world."

Joel Dahmen's 'imposter syndrome' on Full Swing certainly offered us a humane perspective on an athlete's life like never before.
