The French golfer was +3 after eight holes and struggled with his game. On the postage stamp hole, Romain Langasque's tee shot fell short of the green, while his second shot went over the green into the rough. Hence, many fans believe this struggle on the golf course forced him to withdraw from the event.

"Many of these guys get too used to playing with the sun on their backs wherever they go in the world. Playing target golf on in near perfect conditions. Scottish summers on a links course is real life golf, where you have to manufacture shots to suit the conditions," one fan sought to explain.

"Golf will tear you apart," another ventured.
"Dude hit a shank at one of the hardest courses in the world and dipped. I can’t blame him to be honest," this fan tweeted.
"I feel you, Romain," a user said.

This birdie was the only positive thing that happened to Romain on day one, as after that, he carded three bogeys on the next five holes. He never looked in control of his game and struggled on the challenging Royal Troon. On the infamous postage stamp eighth hole, Langasque's tee shot fell way short of the green into the rough.

Following this, his second shot went way over the green as he announced his withdrawal from the event.

Justin Thomas leads the 2024 Open Championship as he carded -3 on day one. He carded seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey to remain at the top of the leaderboard.

Alex Noren, Justin Rose, Nicolai Hojgaard and Russell Henley are in second place with -2. As the first round is still in progress, we might see some changes in the leaderboard with Brooks Koepka and a couple of other golfers having started their rounds on a positive note.
