The US Open 2024 completed its field on Monday, June 10, with the inclusion of members of the top 60 of the world ranking, not otherwise exempt, and several alternates. The field highlights the presence of several promising young players.
Players such as Ludvig Aberg and Akshay Bhatia are rising stars of the PGA Tour who will be present at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2. However, some qualified players are even younger, some even making their debut at this level.
Let's take a look at six of the youngest players in the field at the US Open 2024.
Top 6 youngest participants at the US Open 2024
Most of the rising stars on this list are amateur players who qualified for the US Open 2024 through the Open Qualifying process.
#1 Bryan Kim
Bryan Kim, 19, is the youngest player in the field for the third major of the season. Kim is a freshman at Duke University and qualified by winning the 2023 US Junior Amateur Championship.
In his young career, Bryan Kim has twice won the Maryland Junior Amateur Championship (2019, 2021) and was named a Rolex American Junior Golf Association All-American in 2021 and 2022.
His presence at Pinehurst is his debut in majors.
#2 Wells Williams
Wells Williams, 20, is a junior at Vanderbilt University. He won his spot at Pinehurst in the final qualifier at Woodmont Country Club, Rockville, Maryland. There he carded back-to-back rounds of 67 to earn the third and final ticket in contention.
In his time in U.S. collegiate golf, Williams has one victory (2023 Cabo Collegiate in Mexico). He was also a semifinalist in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship in 2022 and 2023 and was a member of the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team.
Williams makes his U.S. Open debut.
#3 Luke Clanton
Luke Clanton, 20, is currently ranked No. 8 in the World amateur rankings. Two weeks ago he led the Florida State University Seminoles to the NCAA Division I Championship, where they lost to the University of Auburn. Clanton finished second in the individual event as well.
Clanton qualified in the final qualifier at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Florida, with rounds of 70 and 69. During the spring he posted three victories in U.S. collegiate golf and in 2021 was a semifinalist in the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Clanton makes his debut in this event.
#4 Parker Bell
Parker Bell qualified in the final qualifier at the Dallas (Texas) Athletic Club with rounds of 70 and 69. With this result, he tied for second place and earned one of six disputed tickets in a playoff involving seven players.
Bell currently plays collegiate golf in the United States for the University of Florida. He was a semifinalist in the 2023 US Amateur, where he lost to eventual winner Nick Dunlap.
Bell is making his US Open debut.
#5 Nick Dunlap
Nick Dunlap (20) earned his spot in the 2024 US Open by winning the 2023 US Open Amateur. Since then, Dunlap earned his first professional-level victory by winning The American Express competing as an amateur.
Dunlap turned professional shortly thereafter and, among other performances, made his debut at the Masters and the PGA Championship (both missed the cut).
He has missed the cut in both of his previous appearances in this event.
#6 Tom Kim
Tom Kim is one of several players aged 21 years at Pinehurst, but arguably the most successful of them all. Kim has won three PGA Tour tournaments from 2022 to date, in addition to nine other victories on the Asian Tour and the local Korean circuit.
This is Tom Kim's third appearance in this event. In 2022 he finished 23rd and in 2023, he finished T8.
