Phil Mickelson tried his hand at a Scottish accent as the American said he hoped he could follow up his Open win with victory at the US Open.
Adam Scott and Tiger Woods both spoke of their disappointment while Lee Westwood reflected that some days “it just doesn’t happen.”

“I think that if I’m able to win the U.S. Open and complete the career Grand Slam, I think that that’s the sign of the complete great player. And I’m a leg away. And it’s been a tough leg for me (laughter). But I think that’s the sign. I think there’s five players that have done that. And those five players are the greats of the game. You look at them with a different light. And if I were able to ever win a US Open, and I’m very hopeful that I will, but it has been elusive for me. And yet this championship has been much harder for me to get.”
(Asked if the name Mickelson is Scottish)
“I don’t know. I don’t know (with a Scottish accent) (laughter). Maybe a wee bit (laughter).”

“I think the disappointing thing is this one I felt a wasted a little bit. I would have liked to be in at the end and no one was, actually. It’s a shame. But the game is there. I’m going to look forward to keeping it sharp next week and going to the World Golf Championship and another major in the next couple of weeks. I like where I’m at.”

“It was frustrating. I played well. I could just never get the speed right today. We started on the first day and it progressively got slower. And that’s usually the opposite at most tournaments. It usually gets faster as the week goes on, but this week it was different. And today I had a couple of opportunities to make a couple of putts and I left them short.”

“I felt pretty comfortable out there. I felt good on the greens. I rolled a lot of putts. I was unlucky a couple of times on the greens, run it close. But some days it just doesn’t happen.”
