Grayson Colby Murray tragically passed away at just 30 years of age. The PGA Tour star was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on October 1, 1993, to Eric Murray and Terry Murray.

The late golfer's father, Eric Murray worked with auto parts. Grayson Murray has credited his parents multiple times over his career for his success. After his mother, Terry, was involved in a tragic SUV accident, Grayson Murray was devasted. His parents walked with him every hole of every tournament providing him with immense support.

Grayson Murray attended and played for Leesville Road High School, where he earned individual titles and led the team to the state title. He later went on to play at Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State University, where he graduated from.


Golf World reacts to Grayson Murray's sudden passing

Several fans and players from all over the world took to social media to honour Grayson Murray and his legacy. Although the exact cause of Murray's death is unknown, he had withdrawn from the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in Forth Worth, Texas with only two holes left to play that day.

The next morning the PGA Tour's commissioner, Jay Monahan, confirmed the news of his tragic death. Monahan issued a statement on behalf of the PGA Tour and its players, saying:

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words. The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones."

Murray's caddie, Jay Green, also expressed his sadness at the devastating loss of his good friend. Green said:

"Grayson was the absolute best. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend. He truly would do anything for anyone. He has the best family, and my heart goes out to them. We will all miss him deeply."

Several other players took to their social media accounts to express their grief over the loss of the two-time PGA Tour winner. Fellow competitor and close friend Akshay Bhatia took to his Instagram and Luke Donald took to X to share their grief.

Jay Monahan reached out to Grayson Murray's parents to offer his condolences and also offered to stop playing at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in honour of their son. Grayson Murray's parents requested that the tournament be continued as that's what he would have wanted.

The Charles Schwab Challenge's commentator Jim Nantz was lost for words during the telecast of the third round of the tournament. He said:

"Grayson Murray gone way too soon at the age of 30. It is a sad day on the PGA Tour. But somehow, with heavy hearts, we're gonna cover a golf tournament...We're gonna try the best we can, being as respectful as we can in our tone and in our hearts. We'll continue live at Fort Worth as we remember Grayson Murray and his tragic news that has just hit us on the PGA Tour."

Grayson Murray is survived by his parents, fiancee, siblings, and nephews.
