Luke Clanton continues to impress as he remains in contention at the 2024 Wyndham Championship. The amateur golfer has completed four holes of the final round and is tied for second place, just two strokes behind leader Max Greyserman.
The 20 year old prodigy was born to Rhonda and David Clanton in Hialeah, Florida. The amateur star has two sisters, Abby and Ray, who excel in soccer and modeling, respectively. Clanton's father, David, works three jobs to support his family. He runs a glass business while also working as a landscaper and a golf coach.
The Florida State golfer's mother, Rhonda, is a flight attendant. Luke Clanton has credited his family multiple times. In an interview with the PGA Tour, he revealed that his determination and work ethic stem from observing his parents and sisters work hard at pursuing their dreams.
In an interview with CBS Golf, his parents discussed the sacrifices they have made in order to see Clanton excel. Here's what Rhonda said:
"David did all the work when Luke was little. [He] taught him and took him places while I dealt with the girls. He [David Clanton] worked his jobs and then eventually he had more jobs than I did so I started taking over travelling with Luke. ... It took a lot but well worth it."
"It took everything. I had to put both my companies to the side and focus on Luke. ... I think that's why he's here today," David added.
Growing up, Luke Clanton's sisters made significant sacrifices to support his golf pursuits. Abby, a former collegiate soccer star, is now following her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Clanton shared that his sisters encouraged their parents to "save money for him" given his promising talent. During the 2024 US Open, the 20-year-old expressed his primary goal of earning enough to help retire his parents.
