Jets tickets 4% below average for divisional matchup with Bills

New York Jets

The New York Jets haven’t had it easy in 2014. Ever since starting 1-0 in Week 1, the team has had tough opponent after tough opponent and enters Week 8 riding an awful six-game losing streak. If there is a bright side, it’s that the Jets are for the most part exiting the toughest part of their schedule and got a new weapon in wide receiver Percy Harvin via trade earlier in the week.

Even better is Gang Green’s Week 8 opponent, a pretty beatable Buffalo Bills team. Add Harvin’s debut and a divisional home game together, and this one offers considerable value, with Jets vs Bills tickets coming in at an average price of $157.37 on the secondary market with a get-in price of $44. The average price is 4% below the remaining season average for Jets tickets at home this year.

Also encouraging is the recent play of quarterback Geno Smith, who was much better in a home loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 6 and then played exceptionally well in a narrow loss to the New England Patriots on the road last week. Of course, his improved play can’t suddenly fade away now, when the Jets need to find a way to get on a winning streak to save their season. Luckily they face a severely banged up Buffalo running game, so New York’s formerly stout front seven could finally get back to dominating against the run.

Even if Geno and Harvin can keep the offense together this week, this one likely still rests on New York’s defense. Oddly, Gang Green’s best area for so long, the defense has been letting them down over the course of the 2014 season. It’s specifically been their injury-ravaged pass defense, which does have a plus matchup with Kyle Orton in Week 8.

If the Jets can take advantage of their matchups and avoid imploding at home, they have a solid chance of getting their first win since week one. What they do from there is anyone’s guess, but even the most improbable turnarounds have to start somewhere.
