Sports had always given its fans a reason to cheer, to celebrate as if no one’s seeing your enthusiastic faces, or to feel a loss and many such things.
But beyond such happy and sad moments, sports also provide us a reason to love it.
An unconditional love for the spirit of fighting and winning. Such a reason was indeed provided in reality by NFL team Indianapolis Colts’ players.
Colts is a professional American Football team playing in the NFL. Their home-ground is situated in Indianapolis, Indiana. They are part of the South Division of American Football Conference.
During the start of the new season many changes happened at the Colts with their head coach Jim Caldwell gets fired. Due to this a new name for the head coach was unveiled which read as Chuck Pagano.
Reason Behind This Move
The start to the new season wasn’t great as they lost their opening game against the Chicago Bears. But this sad opening was nothing as compared to what occurred in the coming days.
In September, it was revealed that head coach Chuck Pagano was suffering from a form of disease called Leukemia. This led to the appointment of their offensive coordinator Bruce Arians as their interim head coach.
Pagano was hospitalized for months in order to overcome his disease and return back as a strong coach. In November, with the permission from doctors he visited his team to see them in action.
The noticeable change in his looks due to the treatment caught everyone’s eye. The trademark hairstyle and the goatee was nowhere to be seen. Back came a bald Pagano.
With due respect to their coach and to support him during his tough phase, a genuine idea was thought of. After a training session, a barber was called in order to shave the players’ heads.
As many as 3 dozen players from the team happily agreed to play their part in supporting the coach.
Many events were also organized by the team officials in order to raise funds for the research in battling the disease. With every day passing, a new player joined the Shaved Club.
Even social media were used for the purpose where a handle calls “Chuckstrong” was created on Twitter. The move generated tons of support from the different sports fraternity.
Some of the Colts players during their matches donned orange gloves in order to create awareness about the disease.
For The Love Of Sports
Sports always create such scenarios where people are made to stand up and show respect for it. Situations where you feel that you not only follow the game or keep a track of it, you eventually love it. Actions like these actually let us know that for the love of sports people can do whatever is required from them.
We wish a speedy recovery to coach Pagano. May he gets back on the field as soon as possible and lead the Colts to a successful season.
