Simone Arianne Biles Owen is an American artistic gymnast. She is from Spring, Texas, and was homeschooled, graduating in 2015. A senior international elite gymnast, she has been on the national team from 2012-2016, 2018-2021, and 2023-present. Simone Biles was the third of four siblings born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio. She and her siblings spent time in foster care. In 2000, her maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles, began caring for Simone and her sister Adria in Spring, Texas, and formally adopted them in 2003. Ron's sister adopted her two older siblings.
Biles holds Belizean citizenship through her adoptive mother and considers Belize her second home. Raised Catholic, she attended Benfer Elementary School in Texas. In 2012, she switched to homeschooling to dedicate more time to gymnastics training, completing her high school education in 2015.
