North Zone Handball Championship just concludes at Jammu

North-Zone handball Championship just concluded at Jammu (J&K) today. In the mens Section, Jammu and Kashmir were the champions and Delhi women were outstanding and won the championship. The condition of conducting tournaments are improving day by day and standard of game is also making progress.

But when we compare India to the other Asian countries lot needs to be done. There are two ways to go presently, forming of clubs with contribution and training young children in schools, secondly inviting sponsors and getting our teams trained by foreign coaches and exposing our teams to better teams outside country.

Things are improving since last year but at a slow pace.

India had won Inter-continental Championship at chennai and now our U-20 team will play World Cup qualifying round, India has been again chosen to conduct this championship, some where in May-June this year. India is considered to be a mediocre team in terms of handball in Asia which says a lot for a country which has no proper infrastructure whatsoever in the game.

It is quite a miracle that india could actually win the intercontinental trophy. The Womens handball team have stood out even more than the men who although have been in the forefront of the game through the year. It is a fact that the womens national handball team had made it to the olympics in 1976, a feat which hasnt been matched since. It will be a very long time till india It will be a very long time till india would be able to battle the traditional powerhouses of the asian handball scene like Iran and Korea, but one thing is certain that handball is growing in india and especially in the north and the west.
