Ray Stevenson, an actor known for his memorable performances in movies like "RRR," "Thor" and "Ahsoka," is no more after breathing his last at the age of 58.

With a career spanning several decades, Stevenson's on-screen charisma, versatility and dedication to his craft made him a beloved figure in the world of cinema.

Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland in 1964 and made his acting debut in 1998's The Theory of Flight. He went on to appear in many major roles, including Dagonet in Antoine Fuqua's 2004 movie King Arthur and Volstagg in Marvel's Thor films.

Stevenson has appeared in several films and television series, including Punisher: War Zone and King Arthur. He played Titus Pollo in Rome and performed admirably as Admiral Thrawn's ally Baylon Skoll inStar Wars Celebration last month.


How did Ray Stevenson die?

The veteran actor died on Sunday at the age of 58. His representatives at Independent Talent confirmed the news but did not provide details about the cause of his death.

He most recently was cast in the historical drama 1242: Gateway to the West, taking the lead role that was originally meant to be played by Kevin Spacey.


Remembering Ray Stevenson

Director SS Rajamouli, who made the blockbuster movie Baahubali with Stevenson, wrote on Twitter:

"Shocking ... Just can't believe the news. Ray brought in so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Working with him was pure joy. My prayers are with his family. May his soul rest in peace."

Actor Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films and starred with Stevenson in Some Kind of Life as a child, also posted a tribute on Twitter:

"This is so sad. Ray played my Dad in the first thing I ever did on TV. Almost 30 years ago. A proper actor with a fascinating career, and I couldn't have dreamed of a better first experience in this ridiculous industry. RIP Ray."
