What Killed Irene Cara? Irene Cara Cause Of Death

Fans of the famous singer and actress have been asking the burning question —what killed Irene Cara?

Best known for her academy award-winning song 'Flashdance ... What a feeling' from the 1983 film 'Flashdance', Cara was struggling with high blood pressure and cholesterol.

As per TMZ, the official cause of her death was 'Arteriosclerotic and Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease'. That could also be linked to her long-standing case of diabetes.

A resident of Florida, Cara passed away at her home in November. Her publicist, who did not give a statement immediately, tweeted later:

“This is the absolute worst part of being a publicist. I can’t believe I’ve had to write this, let alone release this news. Please share your thoughts and memories of Irene. I’ll be reading each and every one of them and know she’ll be smiling from Heaven. She adored her fans. – JM”

She added:

“Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief. She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.”

Cara turned a recluse in her later years as she retired to her home. A neighbor of hers who befriended her even said that Cara had admitted that she was struggling with health issues, namely diabetes and blood pressure.

It's no surprise that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.

There seems to be a rampant rise in diabetic and cholesterol-related cases, as the number of fatalities is on an upward trend, while the average age of the patients affected by them is slowly reducing. Perhaps, greater dietary measures need to be implemented into the American diet.

Irene Cara was loved across the world for her music and films, and those who continue to keep her spirit alive hope that her fans will honor her legacy and do the same.
