Freddy Tylicki moves to general spinal ward after 15 days in intensive care

Freddy Tylicki has moved from intensive care to a general spinal ward following the fall at Kempton Park which left the jockey with paralysis of the lower half of his body.

Tylicki was one of the riders involved in the four-horse pile-up on October 31, being airlifted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where it later emerged he had suffered a T7 paralysis, meaning he has movement in the upper half of his body but not the lower.

A statement issued by the Injured Jockeys Fund read: "Following 15 days in the intensive care unit at St George's Hospital, today (Tuesday) Freddy Tylicki moved into a general spinal ward."

It went on: " Freddy and his family are very relieved that his condition is improving and that he is now well enough to leave intensive care.

"Freddy would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support and kindness during this tough time. It has been a great comfort to him.

"It is anticipated that he will remain in St George's for some time and visiting times are very restricted. Therefore the hospital strongly request that visitors contact one of the family before making any plans."

Newly-crowned champion Flat jockey Jim Crowley escaped the incident with a broken nose, while Ted Durcan was left with a broken ankle. Steve Drowne was unscathed.
