Top Gamble is more likely to make his reappearance in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on Sunday than run in Ireland on the same day.

Kerry Lee's high-class performer rounded off last season in great style, readily defeating Dodging Bullets in the Game Spirit at Newbury before signing off with another impressive victory in the Normans Grove Chase at Fairyhouse.

Lee has, however, decided against running the eight-year-old under top weight in the BetVictor Gold Cup on Saturday.

Top Gamble also received an entry in thetote.com Fortria Chase at Navan on Sunday but Lee is, at this stage, favouring a comeback at Prestbury Park.

“We're on weather watch for 24 hours,” said the Presteigne-based trainer.

“Both races declare at 10am on Friday, so I'll have a discussion with the owners this evening and make a decision.

“As long as they get the rain they're meant to on Saturday, he is more likely to run in the Shloer Chase on Sunday, but we'll see what happens.

“Richard Johnson has been confirmed for the ride (at Cheltenham) this morning. It's a tricky situation."

Top Gamble's potential rivals, if he does line up at Cheltenham include Nicky Henderson's 2013 Arkle Trophy hero Simonsig, Colin Tizzard's new recruit Fox Norton and Henry de Bromhead's challenger Special Tiara.
