Top Notch made it two wins from three starts over fences as he landed the Autumn Gala Novices' Chase at Plumpton.

Nicky Henderson's charge was sent off the 2-5 favourite following an impressive victory on his second chase outing at Warwick just under two weeks ago.

Daryl Jacob was positive from the off and the five-year-old turned in an impressive round of jumping, with only the four-year-old Romain De Senam mounting any sort of challenge.

However, Jacob asked for a bit extra on the turn for home and Top Notch, despite conceding the best part of a stone to his younger rival, easily pulled clear on the run to the second-last.

Two fine leaps sealed the victory, with Top Notch coming home six lengths clear of Romain De Senam, with Overtown Express making good late headway for third.

Jacob told At The Races: "I was very happy with him.

"It wasn't ideal, as you didn't want to really be making the running, but I had no option.

"It's another learning curve and he'll be a lot more better for it.

"He's getting quicker and slicker."
