Willie Mullins unruffled by quiet autumn

ATR

Willie Mullins could step things up considerably at the big meeting at Punchestown on Sunday.

The County Carlow trainer has not had as many runners as might have been expected this autumn.

By contrast, Gordon Elliott has made an explosive start to the campaign and has built up a healthy advantage in the trainers' championship.

But Mullins in unfazed, and plans to mount a strong challenge at Punchestown and, in particular, in the valuable StanJames.com Morgiana Hurdle.

He told the Irish Times: "I would hope to run as many as I can (in the Morgiana Hurdle) since it's very hard to get races for them all.

"At the moment it's all about getting the horses out but the weather has been so unseasonal.

"It was like September this morning on the gallops, incredibly warm, and basically we're waiting on the ground.

"But Ruby (Walsh) said to me we only had the one runner at that Navan Sunday meeting a year ago, too, so it's not unusual for us to have so few runners at this time of year.

"We are traditionally late so I'm not concerned at all."
