I-League 2017: 5 managers who could replace Sanjoy Sen

Enter captio

Sanjoy Sen and Mohun Bagan finally parted ways after the Green and Maroons lost their home match against 10-man Chennai City FC. The frustration of the fans was so much that a few of them attempted to hurl stones at the post-match conference but the security thwarted them.

They face Aizawl on January 7 and their rivals East Bengal on the 21st. Shankarlal Chakraborty can't continue as the manager for the whole season, so the management has to look for a replacement soon. Here are 5 managers who could fill up his shoes.

#5 Subhash Bhowmick as the Technical Director

Subhash Bhowmick isn't an AFC licensed coach, but, that can't stop him from being the Technical Director. Shankarlal can be promoted to the head coach and still can continue to do the job of a Technical Director.

The Asian Games bronze medalist knows the pressure of coaching one of the 'Big Two' clubs as he previously coached East Bengal to two back-to-back NFLs and LG ASEAN Cup in 2003. He even coached Mohun Bagan in the 2010-11 season from midway and took them to a 6th place finish from 12th place. He also won I-League with Churchill Brothers and knows what it takes to win the league.

It would be a delight for the Mariners if the forward can cover for the poor run of Mohun Bagan.

#4 Armando Colaco

Colaco is widely regarded as one of India's best managers after the success he has enjoyed at Churchill Brothers and Dempo.

He even guided Dempo to the semi-finals of AFC Cup in 2008. During that tenure, he was known for his sudden burst of wing play and the 4-4-2 formation he put in. Norde and Faiyaz could play in the wings with Kromah and Dicka as the two forwards. This would suit both the coach and the players.

He too knows the pressure of managing one of the 'Big Two' clubs as he earlier led East Bengal to a CFL. Whether Mohun Bagan can give the former Indian coach an offer to manage the side is something to be seen as he is currently coaching FC Bardez in the Goa Professional League.

#3 Trevor Morgan

Morgan is no stranger to Kolkata and knows the passion, legacy and the expectations of the fans like the back of his hand.

The 61-year-old is regarded as one of India's most successful foreign coaches. Under his guidance, East Bengal remained unbeaten for a record 30 times in a calendar year. Also under his mentorship, East Bengal reached quarterfinals of 2013 AFC Cup with an unbeaten record, a feat that no other Indian club has achieved in the history of the competition.

He even led them to two Federation Cups, 1 IFA Shield and even managed Kerala Blasters in the ISL.

It would be interesting if the West Ham supporter manages to show up for 'The Green and Maroons.

#2 Eelco Schattorie

This name, too like the previous name is very well acquainted with Kolkata football. He managed Prayag United for two seasons and even guided them to an IFA Shield. He too has managed East Bengal.

His last role was that of a caretaker coach for Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Professional League. He even prevented them from being relegated last season but hasn't managed any team this season.

His twitter bio reads like 'My love for football is limitless, whereever the game takes me.' The Bagan management sure would have his name in their mind when they look for the post.

If this deal works out, then it would be the biggest signing in the history of I-League managers. Former New Zealand and the Maldives international coach joining the Green and Maroons is less likely given that he runs an academy of his own.

He is one of the very few people to both play and manage a team in the FIFA World Cup. He even expressed his interest in coaching the national side in 2015 before AIFF gave the post to Stephen Constantine.

However, he is in the commentary box in a few ISL matches, which means he is still looking at the scenario of Indian football. He coached North East United FC in the first season of ISL and has a fair idea about how the Indian players play.
